  7. indonesianhistory:

"Puspa Pesona Wasra" exhibition (opened on Thursday, April 4, 2013) showcases almost 100 traditional fabrics belonging to Indonesian female public figures, The exhibition was held at the National Museum and opened by Minister of Women Empowerment, Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar. The exhibition and fashion show performed female figures who were known for their love of fabrics originating from their homelands and were never known to be ashamed of wearing it.

The selected ‘reenacted’ figures were women who also took part and participated in building or fighting for the country, such as Cut Nyak Dhien, prominent women’s movement figure Raden Dewi Sartika, feminist Raden Ajeng Kartini, first female ambassador Laili Roesad, first female news reporter of Sumatra Rohana Kudus, paramilitary female soldier Siti Bambang Utoyo, first journalist Herawati Diah, founder of Wastraprema Lasmidjah Hardi, sosial figure Johanna Nasution, and freedom fighter Maria Walanda Maramis.

    Kashmir by Steve McCurry

Wedged between India with its Hindu majority and Pakistan with its Muslim majority, Kashmir has been caught in the cross fire for more than half a century.

For almost two decades,  the Indian and Pakistani armies have been fighting a war on the 20,000-foot-high Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battleground.
